JOHN WALLER
I had notebooks full of parts-is-parts imagery, poetry and eventually
lyrics, but I am musically-declined. I had written a few things over the
years that several people had put to music, but nothing consistent had
developed.
I was a Singles Minister in Fayetteville, GA and I needed someone to
pick-n-grin for a New Years Eve event (1992!) I heard about this kid in
town named John Waller, and gave him a call. What I heard that night was
as good as anything on Christian radio, and I told him so. A few nights
later I called him and told him about my notebooks. He was and is a
great songwriter, but said that he would like to see what I had, and
reluctantly agreed to come over with his guitar.
That first night, a lyric in the notebook I had called "They Told Me"
became a song as he plucked out a great melody for it. Since that night
we have written hundreds of songs, and John has recorded many of them on
numerous CD's. These projects are available on John's website at
www.johnwallerproject.com
Our prayer is that God will continue to use these songs to challenge and
encourage people to know him, to seek him and to serve him.
POINT of GRACE
Dear family & friends,
As most of you know I have been writing songs with my friend John Waller
for about 10 years. He recorded many of them as a solo artist, then many
more while leading the band According to John. Melanie and Josee have
accommodated many song writing marathons in the past decade.
The prayer over every lyric has always been that God would maximize it -
use it in a life here and there, and perhaps one day, that he would use
some of them in some amazing way.
From the first time I was able to stand in the back of one of John's
concerts, large or small, and know the thrill of watching people
worshiping and being encouraged by songs that God had allowed us to
write, I told John that I had a dream that someday some kid in Ohio
would turn on his truck radio on his way home from football practice and
be challenged and encouraged a song that we had written on my porch.
While there are still some exciting possibilities for John's future as
an artist, he and Josee recently followed God's leading to accept a
Praise & Worship Leader position at a great creative church in Colorado.
Then out of "nowhere", something truly miraculous has come our way.
I am very thankful and honored to tell you that the Lord has allowed one
of our songs to be selected by POINT OF GRACE as the TITLE RELEASE of
their new CD. The song, as well as the name of their new CD is I CHOOSE
YOU. John and I wrote the lyric, and John wrote the music along with two
of the A2J band members Matt Adkins and and Jason Hoard.
Point of Grace
a Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning Christian group, has had 24 consecutive #1
singles, so the hopes are high for this song to impact many lives and to
do very well in the charts. Here is the album cover:
John, Josee and I were able to be in Estes Park, CO in August, 2004 for
the debut of the song at the annual Gospel Music Association Music in
the Rockies event. We met with the four members of Point of Grace for a
while, and then they actually acknowledged us in the introduction of the
song.
It was an amazing moment for us to sit there and hear Shelly introduce
the song saying that they had listened to over a thousand songs before
choosing the cuts for this project, and that I CHOOSE YOU clearly had to
be the title cut because it is now "the prayer of their lives". God did
this.
I CHOOSE YOU was released on nationwide Christian radio and the CD was
in the stores in October, 2004.
We are writing to ask you to please:
1. Pray for the Lord to use the song to encourage listeners nationwide
to CHOOSE HIM.
2. Listen for it on your local Christian radio stations, and call in to
request it. Airplay of course directly determines the ministry impact of
the song, as well as chart placements for various awards.
3. Pray for John and Josee HYPERLINK
"http://www.johnwallerproject.com"www.johnwallerproject.com as there is
recent renewed interest in John as a solo artist.
4. Pray that the Lord will give us new lyrics and tunes that will wake
us up at night, and interrupt our days, and that the miracle of this
song will open new avenues for the stewardship of old and new songs.
What an honor, and what a God thing.
We had to tell you.
Choose Him,
Scott Johnson
